MODERN TIMES ( and no, not CHAPLIN)

Down comes the 1951 building at 99 Church Street (between Barclay & Park Place) and up goes the Silverstein condo-hotel project rising 66 stories with 175 luxury hotel rooms and 143 condos planned. This will cast a few shadows, but fortunately it's two blocks south of Murray Street so shadows should quit before the luxury lofts in Tribeca begin.

The big shiny bronze ditty on the facade of 99 Church says:

Man’s confidence in man
Commercial credit is the creation of modern times and belongs in its highest perfection only to the most enlightened and best governed nations - credit is the vital air of the system of modern commerce - it has done more, a thousand times more, to enrich nations than all the mines of the world - quoted from a speech by Daniel Webster in the senate at Washington March 1834.

Hmmm.
